Literature Text

The photocopier screaming that
Its low ink is similar to a cardiac arrest as if
The library is a hospital and
Sure there are people who
Think it's a worthy emergency, but
They're the librarians themselves and
As they rush and fret and rush, the
Books will topple, the
Covers creasing and
Someone will yell Code Austen and
That guy who always sits in that aisle will leap
Into action, thumb between the pages,
Helpful smile on his face,
The clock face shifting all the while and
The smell of pens on paper distracting
Them from their job, and yes
That is rather counterintuitive but
By the time they realise this, it's closed,
And silence reigns to complete the cliché.
I had a lot of fun writing this. I was inspired by the photocopier in our library. Not sure why it beeped, but two librarians rushed over to fix it...but my brain took hold of things differently.

Enjoy! Feel free to comment, critique, et cetera

NOTE: This poem has been reworked and expanded into a suite of poems called The Library.

This is a fun idea :) (After all, the silence of the library is so sacred...)
