RaindropIt was still pouring outside. The road was slick and black, mirroring the streetlights' docile daze. I kissed Grandma goodbye, and waved to Mum who was still talking to Uncle Garth. I dodged out from the confines of the veranda and ran to the car, yanking the passenger door open and squeezing inside.
"So you are coming with me, in the 'stinky work van'," Dad said, mimicking my earlier words. I nodded as I did up my seatbelt. He began to back the car out of the driveway, looking carefully back through the gloom.
