They knocked on each side of the door at the same time, cautiously. They knocked again, confused. The door opened, tentatively.

They smiled at the same time, almost embarrassed by their synchronicity. But they weren’t. They would never admit it, but both of them were secretly glad they had found each other, a perfect stranger.

They spoke no words, so as not to ruin the effect. And, in return, no words found them. Their eyes drank in each other, greedily attempting to slake the unquenchable, before the door closed between them, slamming them each back into their own respective worlds.

**

They both knocked on the door from opposite sides, startled by the instant echo. One pushed, the other pulled, and the door was open.

They shared a synchronised smile; secretly pleased to have found each other, perfect strangers.

No words were spoken; no need to. They sought only to look.

**

They knocked on the same door, opened it at the same time, smiled the same smile. Silence helped slake their eyes’ thirsts. Both perfect strangers.

**

Both were perfect strangers, content to have found each other, in synch together.

**

Both perfect strangers in perfect harmony.
This is a new type of story for me to write...not sure how it turned out. I call them half life stories! Inspired by #Midnight-Poetry-Soul's prompts of the week! Thanks for the inspiration, guys

Basically, this is the same story, getting constantly distilled: from 100 words, to 50 words, to 25, to 13, to 6. What do you think? I just knocked this up in ten minutes, so don't expect it to be magnificent, but I'd like to hear your opinion. Yes, YOURS! :P

I love the idea of half life stories! I think you did a lovely job whether it was 100 words or 6. I even really like your title; it's very attention grabbing. I really like this story! :D

Just out of curiosity, did you write the 100 word story first, or the 6 word story?

Thank you very much!! I really appreciate your comment (and the fave)

I started with the 100 word story first, and then whittled it down. I guess it just shows how 'cheaply' a story can live! Thanks again!

You are so very welcome! :D

Haha I guess that's right; but it's pretty awesome how a story can come in so many different sizes and show pretty much the same thing each time, just on a lesser scale. And you're welcome again! :huggle:

I thought while I was here thanking you for the faves (thank you! :D), I'd actually look at some of your work for once ^^

I'm impressed that you came up with this in just 10 minutes. I love it ^^ I like the way you haven't just distilled the story down - you've found a slightly different angle for each one, so as to keep the reader's interest.

It's such a great idea. I'd really like to have a try myself.
